Howdy! My name is Kevin. I always have a strong interest in stem cell biology, especially using fancy imaging system to closely examine stem cell behavior. My current focus in Savatic lab is on neural stem cell regulation and adult hippocampal neurogenesis. The decline of neurogenesis in late adulthood has been associated with many neurological disorders including dementia. What factors directly lead to declined number of active neural stem cells in aged brain and whether it can be rescued remain to be explored. By studying NR2E1, a gene encoding a master regulator of neural
stem cells, we seek to explore the possibility to activate neural stem cells on demand and subsequently prevent certain diseases caused by loss of active neural stem cells.
